Surf Lesson Locations
We teach lessons at numerous locations throughout the year due to changing conditions in the Pacific Ocean. The changing tides, prevailing swell and wind directions, as well as crowds often lead us to choose different surf locations for your lesson. Rest assured, you will know exactly where to meet us for your San Diego Surf Lesson!
This Beach is our all time favorites for not just lessons, but also a fun filled family day at the beach. With easy beach access, bathrooms, and a park for the young ones, there is something for everyone! This wide open beach has plenty of room to spread out and the lifeguard headquarters is right above the beach! This break is best for younger kids on a surf lesson on smaller days. When the waves get on the bigger side, the waves break with more energy than other spots, which is much more fun as an intermediate-advanced surfer.
While this point break is one of the best spots in the North County area, we rarely surf at the main peak unless crowds allow. We take a philosophy of shared experience vs. competitive experience with other surfers, meaning that we don’t surf waves outside of what we need for surf lessons. Beginners would never go out at Pipeline, and we use the same thought process here when choosing a location for your surf lesson.
Grandview is one of those great spots at low tide that can be both perfect for beginners, and intermediate surfers. There is a deep spot between the main peak and the shorebreak that allows the waves to reform into perfect beginner waves that are away from the more advanced surfers. Unfortunately, Grandview is not as easily teachable at a high tide, meaning that mid-low tides are the only times that we can utilize this location, typically below a 3 foot tide. When it is working, this wave can offer long rights and lefts that can offer longer sweeping faces, as well as the occasional quick cover up barrel section, depending on the swell direction and tide.
Beacons is another break that is very similar to Grandview, which is just about a half mile to the north. The cliffs provide a challenge at high tide, making this location another low tide only surf lesson surf break. Limited parking does help this break remain less crowded, however you still need to find a place to park! Ask us about our electric bike rentals with surfboard racks on them!
